The Elephant Story third annual elephant polo tournament will be held at the Chang Boon Wittaya School in Moo Baan Chang, Ban Ta Klang, Surin, Thailand from June 16-18, 2016.
There will be six teams representing eight countries from four continents competing in the three-day tournament to raise funds for the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation in support of educational and elephant care projects in the village, home to over 200 elephants, the largest concentration of Asian elephants in one dot on the map.
So, you may wonder why we do this sort of thing. First of all, it is fun. We are all passionate about elephants. Secondly, anyone who jumps on an elephant and plays polo hitting a small ball with a long stick is a wee bit off center and loves to have a good time.
However, the overriding reason is it is greatly beneficial for the villagers, shown below on Mother's Day in the pavilion The Elephant Story supported.
Moreover, we firmly believe our efforts are important for the young...
and the old who are long in the tooth.
Fundamentally, The Elephant Story's commitment to Moo Baan Chang, Ban Ta Klang is to improve the quality of life in the village through education and improved veterinary care for the elephants. Sustainability is critical to the maintenance of an improved quality of life for the elephants and their mahout owners and families. Most mahouts cannot imagine life without an elephant. For their children, we would like to offer them optionality to a broader world if they find that more appealing.
Have a look at the tournament trophies below. The Elephant Story team shirts shown will be available for sale in the store and online and are perfect for the Fourth of July celebration.
