To eliminate any remaining suspense, the exuberance of the senior citizen in the photo pretty much defined the outcome of the tournament. Actually, the Four Seasons team chose to wear the purple and yellow Elephant Story jerseys that were formerly the design of the Sara Story Design team. The Four Season team members are from left to right, Khun Phed, Khun Tak and Khun Ed. Rather than cause any confusion, the younger Khun Ed has been re-named Khun Chang (elephant) as a reminder of an old friend of mine, Colonel Chang in the former Thai Communist Suppression Squad but that is a chapter from long ago. Now we rely on Archan Noo sak yant shirts or actual ink for protection.
You will note that many of the mahouts are wearing stocking caps. You may wonder why anyone would wear them in the tropics. In actual fact, the mountains of The Golden Triangle cause the temperatures to be pretty cold in the winter. Therefore, we designed an Elephant Story cap for each of the mahouts. Never miss an opportunity to build relations with one’s mahouts or advertise your cause.
Despite the rigors of elephant polo, we are not without our creature comforts. This young lady, Khun Poy, is our secret spa therapist to restore our strength at half time.
In order to record this event, we asked Khun Somkid to photograph this most important tournament. Moreover, there is nothing better than a glass or two of champagne in the middle of The Golden Triangle. Khun Wee and Saeng join me in expressing our thanks to our expert photographer.
Stay tuned for future adventures from The Elephant Story.
